Water companies in England and Wales were privatised in 1989 by the British government making this a unique situation. This sector is known as "regulated". Today, the United Kingdom and Chile are the only countries to have undergone such a privatisation.
Veolia Water started investing in the U.K. in 1987
It operates three water supply companies and one inset appointment in England - Veolia Water Central, Veolia Water East, Veolia Water Southeast & Tidworth.

Veolia Water Central Limited provides over 870m litres of drinking water per day to 3 million people in parts of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, and the London Boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, and Enfield.
The Three Valleys Water Environment and Education Centre in Bushey, Hertfordshire, opened in 1998 and welcomes around 6,000 visitors each year. Teaching sessions cover environmental issues in line with the national curriculum and can be held at the centre or by school visit.
