Veolia Water reinforces its presence in Germany.

Midewa, of which Veolia Water is the private shareholder and operator along with the municipalities of Saxe-Anhalt, has just been chosen in consortium with the Stadtwerke of Halle, to become the reference operator and shareholder of the regional bulk water-selling company. This adjudication follows an international call for tenders organized by the Land of Saxe-Anhalt.

This regional company, Fernwasserversorgung Elbaue Ostharz (FWV), sells 85 million m3 of water per year to a group of local distributors serving 1.2 million inhabitants. The consortium Midewa-Stadtwerke of Halle becomes 46% shareholder and will have an operational role along with the Kommunale Wasserwerke Leipzig. This partnership will ensure in the future the long term supply of quality water at a competitive price in this region of Germany. FWV's revenue amounts to 40 million euros per year.

The offer by Midewa and its partner was chosen in particular because of its technically innovative and economically efficient nature in a context of long term water cost control.

With this partnership, Veolia significantly reinforces its presence in Germany and its ties with the municipal authorities of Saxe and Saxe-Anhalt, including the cities of Leipzig and Halle.
