The Spanish group Miquel Costas y Miquel specializes in fine paper production, especially for high tech cigarette manufacturing (FDA).

The group exports to over 35 countries worldwide, and trades with all major tobacco firms.

• Revamp existing boilers due to inefficient raw water treatment :
  Due to the obsolescence of the water treatment systems, severe damages occurred in the existing medium pressure boilers. Miquel Costas had to carry out expensive repairs of the boilers and needed to secure their long-term operation.
  
  
• Develop new water treatment plant management strategy. The client decided to also upgrade their boiler feed water treatment system and to outsource the operation of the systems including chemical conditioning for boiler feed water.

Miquel Costas chose Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, a subsidiary of Veolia Water, for the supply of a new demineralization plant (reverse osmosis unit) with a capacity of 240 m³/day.

Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies' project scope includes :

• physical and chemical pre-treatment
• reverse osmosis

In addition to the construction of the boiler feed water production plant, Veolia Water signed two service contracts with the following scopes :

• Five-year maintenance of the systems with guaranteed performance (85.000 m³ osmosed water/year)
  
  - monthly visits by Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies' experts
  - analytical checks
  - preventive and corrective maintenance
  - consumables (chemicals, membranes, prefilters..)
  - operation of the existing IX plant (as needed)
  - 24-hour emergency availability
  
  
• Chemical for boiler feed water conditioning with cost of service based on tons of stream produced.
