The Berlin Center of Competence for Water

The "Berlin Center of Competence for Water" - "KompetenzZentrum Wasser Berlin" (KWB) - is an international centre dedicated to water research and the sharing of expertise.

An international center working with Berlin's universities

KWB co-ordinates the resources from Berlin's universities and research institutes as well as those from Group Berlinwasser and Veolia Water.

This combined approach allows affiliates and partners to carry out projects in partnership with the best national and international technological centers.

A public private partnership

KWB is a company set up in December 2001 as a limited public utility company (gGmbH) as a result of a public private partnership.

The partners of KWB are "Technologiestiftung Innovationszentrum Berlin" (TSB), Berliner Wasserbetriebe, Berlinwasser Holding S.A. as well as Veolia Water Deutschland.

Since January 2003, the partners of KWB have been financing a research department with an annual budget of €440,000 in co-operation with the Technical University, Berlin and the Berlin research network "Wasserforschunge.V".

Underlining this network of researchers is KWB's brief to consolidate the position of Berlin as an international economic and technological centre in the water sector.
