Customers

Customers too have an important role to play in combating water wastage and protecting the environment.

For instance, they have to ensure that their domestic plumbing system - including their water meter - is maintained and functioning properly.
It is also up to them to equip their fittings against any risk of backflow in order to prevent any possible contamination of the public water supply system. Should this water become polluted, water from a domestic plumbing system may then contaminate the whole area's water supply system.
Moreover, a domestic plumbing system has to be connected to the municipal wastewater system (i.e. "all down the drain") and, when this is not possible, be equipped with a non-municipal wastewater system (such as a septic tank).

Through acquiring good habits and by taking a few simple, positive steps - taking a shower rather than a bath, not letting tap water run unnecessarily - customers can also help to prevent wastage and conserve resources.
