Water for All

Since 2000 the international community has rallied round one major goal - access to water and sanitation for all.

The conditions for meeting this challenge were defined at the numerous summits and conferences held since the "Summit on Sustainable Development" inJohannesburg in South Africa in 2002.

Talks between all stakeholders (local, national and supra-national authorities, representatives from the civil society and companies etc) have resulted in a checklist of points on which all agree and those which are still under debate.

These advances are not solely of importance to developing countries but all countries. "Water management placed in the context of sustainable development" is of concern to everyone.

It would seem that improving access to water and sanitation is above all a question of political will, financial resources and good local management, as underlined in the report "Financing Water for All" presented at the World Water Summit in Kyoto in March 2003.

Veolia Water operates in line with the conclusions of this report.
