Veolia Acqua Veolia Water in Italy

Veolia Acqua has been operating in Italy since the latter part of the 19^th century through its intermediary Compagnia Generale delle Acque which in 1879 was awarded the concession for the city of Venice. Veolia Acqua is one of several private operating companies currently active in the water sector in Italy.

Today Veolia Acqua develops and builds upon its activities for municipal and industrial customers through Veolia Acqua Italia founded in early 2001 and through the different subsidiaries which operate in the country.

Water services for municipal customers

In 2001 following an international call for tender Veolia Acqua was chosen by Ambito Territoriale Ottimale (ATO) de Latina to manage for 30 years the outsourced water and wastewater services for the public authority. ATO de Latina brings together 38 local authorities, and in 2003 had a population of around 600,000. This figure does not include a similar number of tourists who descend upon the area in the summer.

In 2002 a Customer Service Center was opened in Latina in order to provide consumers with a high quality local service, as is the case with the other 22 Veolia Water customer service centers around the world.

Veolia Acqua also operates municipal water and wastewater services in other regions including Liguria, Piedmont, Venetia, Emilie-Romagne and Sicily.

Veolia Acqua is one of the leading companies in this sector and is also involved in water treatment for a number of industrial groups, primarily in the food and beverages industry including two major 20-year outsourcing contracts with CEREOL and NOVAOL (BUNGE Group).

Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies designs and builds water treatment works for municipalities and industry. It offers a complete range of technological solutions based on in-house processes and including equipment, modular systems and associated services that meet the water treatment requirements of its municipal and industrial clients.

• SIBA (Design and build) for the municipal market. 50% owned by Veolia Water.
• Idracos and LED Italia for the industrial market. Idracos specialises in effluent treatment for the food and beverage market. LED Italia employs evapo-concentration technologies for the treatment of "hard" effluents, particularly those coming from printing and engineering companies.
