Veolia Water in the United Kingdom

Water companies in England and Wales were privatised in 1989 by the British government making this a unique situation. This sector is the economy is known as "regulated". Today, the United Kingdom and Chile are the only countries to have undergone such a privatisation.

Veolia Water started investing in the U.K. in 1987.It operates three water supply companies in the South East of England - Three Valleys Water, Folkestone and Dover Water Services and Tendring Hundred Water Services.

Veolia Water UK also operates in the non-regulated sector of the water market for the industrial companies under Veolia Water Industrial Outsourcing (VWIO).Veolia Water Industrial Outsourcing provides customised and sustainable solutions to optimise water and wastewater management for Industrial clients in the UK via Krüger UK. Elga, Edward & Jones, Mass Transfer, and Package Treatment Systems.

Its water plant design-build entity, OTV UK, brings solutions to both industrial companies and municipalities.

Three Valleys Water PLC

Three Valleys Water provides over 870m litres of drinking water per day to 3 million people in parts of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, and the London Boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, and Enfield.

The Three Valleys Water Environment and Education Centre in Bushey, Hertfordshire, opened in 1998 and welcomes around 6,000 visitors each year. Teaching sessions cover environmental issues in line with the national curriculum and can be held at the centre or by school visit.

VWIO provides customised and sustainable solutions to optimise water cycle and wastewater management for industrial clients in the UK and Ireland. VWIO designs, builds, owns, operates and finances water and wastewater treatment plants. Contracts include Johnson Matthey and L'Oreal.

In October 2004, Corus Packaging Plus signed a 10-year multi service contract with Veolia Environnement, VWIO being the single point of contract, for multi-service outsourcing services (water, energy and waste) in its Troste site.
