ORIL Industrie - Bolbec, France Pharmaceutical

ORIL Industrie is the fine chemicals business of the Servier group. On its Bolbec site, ORIL Industrie operates three manufacturing units and employs over 700 staff.

The most recent manufacturing unit produces a molecule (strontium ranelate) utilized in the treatment of osteoporosis (protelos®).

To feed its strontium ranelate production line, ORIL Industrie required a production and distribution facility for purified bulk water at a temperature of 85°C (185°F).

In order to reconcentrate its activities on its core business ORIL Industrie wanted to assign the set-up and operation of this installation to a specialized service provider.

Veolia Water was chosen by ORIL Industrie for the design, installation and operation of a production and distribution facility for purified 85°C bulk water at a pressure of 4 bars with a peak flow of 5 m³/h and of a quality that meets the standards of the pharmacopeïa.

Starting with raw water coming from the municipal water supply, the treatment and distribution line is as follows:

• ­pretreatment-conditioning
• ­reverse osmosis module
• ­UV treatment
• ­two Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies electro-deionization modules, guaranteeing conductivity below 4.3 µS/cm
• ­filtration at 0.2 µm, guaranteeing the absence of any bacteria
• ­heating and storage
• ­distribution along a loop equipped with disinfection points.

Signed in 2004, this long-term contract has enabled ORIL Industrie to reconcentrate on its core business, by delegating to a specialized service provider the purified water supply, an essential utility for its production line.
