European and International Regulations
Regulations to protect consumers have been introduced in every country of the world. They are based on recommendations made by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO is part of the United Nations. Its goal is to see the gradual raising of general health levels in all countries in the world.
In Europe, the Brussels Commission has laid down very strict regulations. These severely limit the amount of micro-organisms and chemical substances permitted in drinking water. The thresholds to be respected may vary slightly from country to country in accordance with local pollution risks. In setting these thresholds, a precautionary approach is taken in order to protect those that are most vulnerable. The aim is to guarantee both the clean quality of the water as well as the taste quality.
The facilities for producing, supplying and treating water are also subject to highly rigorous quality controls. These are in accordance with standards that aim to guarantee the constant delivery of clean and pleasant water.
