In 2001 after an international call for tender the cities of Tangiers and Tetouan awarded the management of their water, wastewater and electricity services to Amendis, a subsidiary of Veolia Environnement Maroc. The objectives of these concession contracts are to build wastewater treatment plants, rehabilitate and modernize facilities as well as improve the service to the public through facilitating a better supply coverage for water, electricity and wastewater.
In 2002 Veolia Environnement Maroc purchased the Redal company, a contractor for the outsourced electricity, water and wastewater services for the cities of Rabat and Salé. The company is primarily responsible for:
- increasing access to services for all of the population;
- assisting in the development of the capital and the surrounding region;
- modernizing the public service;
- improving and building on the performance of the water, wastewater and electricity services.
