Veolia Water in China

 Veolia Water has been present in China since the 1980s through its subsidiary OTV-Kruger which specializes in water engineering. Its first water management contract was signed in 1997, a 20-year contract for the renovation, operations and maintenance of a water plant in the city of Tianjin. Today Veolia Water provides drinking water and wastewater services to both municipal and industrial clients across China, covering design and build, operation and maintenance, as well as full service concessions including distribution and customer services. Its contracts involve a total population of over 30 million inhabitants of whom over 21 million are served through full service concessions. The company employs more than 9000 employees and manages 20 municipal contracts and 5 industrial contracts in 20 out of the 34 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and special administrative regions in China.

In 2002, Veolia Water strengthened its leading position in the water service sector in China, following the signing of the 50-year full-service water contract for Shanghai's Pudong business district. The following year the 50-year municipal outsourcing services contract for water and wastewater in Shenzhen was signed, followed by a range of full services long-term contracts in other major cities including provincial capitals such as Kunming, Lanzhou and Haikou.

In September 2007, Veolia Water signed another full service key contract in the city of Tianjin. The contract, which has a30-year scope covers the water production, distribution and customer services for 3 million inhabitants in the districts of Shibei and Binhai. The Municipality of Tianjin is one of China's most rapidly growing and important economic hubs.

Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies designs and builds water treatment works for municipalities and industry. It offers a complete range of technological solutions based on in-house processes and including equipment, modular systems and associated services that meet the water treatment requirements of its municipal and industrial clients.
