Research & development

800 experts and researchers are involved in research and development at Veolia Environnement.
R&D has a budget of around €140 million in 2007 and is divided into three main research centers:
- Le Centre de recherche sur l'eau in Maisons-Laffitte (Water Research Center) with its affiliated units in the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia;
- Le Centre de recherche sur la propreté et l'énergie in Limay (Waster and Energy Research Center) with branches in Northern Europe and Australia;
- Le Centre de recherche sur le transport in Paris (Transport Reseach Center) with branches in Sweden
These research centers possess the most sophisticated tools and methods:
- modelling;
- digital simulation;
- logistics;
- operational research;
- artificial intelligence.
Trials take place at various facilities ranging from pilot sites to on-site production prototypes. A systematic operational on-site assessment concludes every study.
They also have access to one of the largest analysis laboratories in Europe - CAE (Centre d'Analyses Environnementales).
Veolia Environnement Foundation
A great corporate foundation
The brief of the Veolia Environnment foundation is to assist not just in France but around the world with initiatives on sustainable development with the following priorities:
- solidarity;
- employment;
- and protection of the environment.
Its annual budget is €5 million which ranks it among one of the top French corporate foundations.
Veolia Waterforce
Emergency response and development unit
This emergency humanitarian response unit was set up by Veolia Water in 1998 to provide assistance in facilitating water services for communities hit by natural disasters.
This unit, now named Veolia Waterforce, brings together a group of volunteer staff from the four Divisions of Veolia Environnement, professionals in water treatment and specially trained in providing emergency assistance.
